Shiprock NM Councilman Russell Begay
spoke on the detrimental way uranium cleanup
is being done in the Shiprock area, where radioactive
tailings are just covered up with rock, rather than removed.
Begay said the drinking water is poisoned with uranium in
the Red Mesa area. He encouraged Navajos to stand
strong and united in the battle for cleanup and to prevent
future uranium contamination and disease for Dine'.
